Gold Vermeil Jewellery Care Made Easy

Vermeil Jewellery is a beautiful and affordable option for those who want the look of pure gold without the high price tag. Vermeil jewellery is made by adding a layer of real gold plating to a sterling silver base. It looks luxurious but is affordable.
To ensure your vermeil jewellery lasts longer and maintains its shine, it's important to care for it properly. Additionally, if tarnishing occurs, understanding why it happens and how to remedy it is crucial.

Caring for Vermeil Jewelry to Extend Its Lifespan:
Vermeil jewellery, like any other piece, requires proper care to prolong its life. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your vermeil jewellery for years to come:

Limit exposure to chemicals: Household cleaning products, lotions, perfumes, and makeup can damage the gold plating. Always apply these products before putting on your vermeil Jewelry/ Jewellery to minimize contact.

Store it properly: Keep your vermeil Jewelry/ Jewellery in a soft pouch or a jewelry box ( link to our jewellery box) to prevent scratches. When not wearing, store your layered necklaces separately to prevent scratching or tangling. (24 words)

Clean gently: If your vermeil Jewelry/ Jewellery needs cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth and gently wipe the surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can remove the gold plating.

Addressing Tarnish and Understanding Why It Happens:
Tarnish is a problem with vermeil jewelry when the gold plating reacts with things like sulfur and oxygen in the air. The reaction results in a dull, discolored appearance. To address tarnish, follow these steps:

Polishing: Use a mild gold polishing cloth to gently buff away tarnish and restore the jewellery’s shine. Be cautious not to rub too vigorously to avoid wearing down the gold layer.

Avoid harsh chemicals Don't use harsh cleaners or chemicals on vermeil jewellery as they can remove the gold plating.

Re-plating. If your vermeil jewelry is tarnished or worn, you can send it back to our Atelier for re-plating. We design our jewellery to last, so we are happy to help you care for it and enjoy it for a longer time. This process could involve simply applying a new layer of gold plating to restore its original appearance.

The Mystery of Green Ears and Skin
Wearing inexpensive jewelry made of copper, brass, or low-quality alloys can cause green earlobes or skin. This happens because these metals react with the acids in the skin. What is happening is that the copper in the jewellery reacts with our sweat or lotion or other products. Gold or silver-plated pieces without a precious base can cause that kind of reaction. When the plating wears thin, chips, or is removed, it creates a breeding ground for a chemical reaction called verdigris. This leads to green marks on your skin. To avoid this scenario, you can rest assured knowing all romy jewellery has a precious base and green
